The Watch: Panerai's history begins with the Italian Navy. The brand supplied luminous instruments and dive watches to Italian military frogmen during World War II, and the current Luminor line traces directly to those mid-century military pieces. The "1950" designation refers to a specific case redesign from that era, when Panerai patented the crown protector bridge that has become the brand's most recognizable feature.
The PAM00321 is the Luminor 1950 3 Days GMT Power Reserve Automatic in stainless steel. The 44mm cushion-shaped case houses Panerai's in-house caliber P.9002, an automatic movement with twin mainspring barrels delivering a 72-hour (3-day) power reserve. The dial features the brand's sandwich construction (a luminous lower layer with the upper layer cut to reveal the markers from beneath), with Arabic numerals at 6, 9, and 12, stick markers elsewhere, small seconds at 9, date at 3, and a power reserve indicator at 5 o'clock. The GMT function is displayed via a second central hand.
The patented crown protector bridge at 9 o'clock locks the crown firmly into the case, contributing to 300 meters of water resistance. The sapphire caseback exposes the movement, including Panerai's distinctive bridge architecture.
