The Watch: The Reverso began as a sports watch for army officers in India that could survive a polo match: a rectangular case that swivels in its cradle to turn the dial inward and put bare metal in front. Jacques-David LeCoultre put it into production, with a patent filed in March 1931.
The modern Reverso took off in the 90's when JLC began treating the watch like the luxury object it is, now far removed from polo play. They began using the reverse side for a second face
The Reverso Classic line is the most geometrically interesting interpretation. The obverse side is a rectangular subseconds seated within a rectangular dial on a brushed and gulloche plane. Flipped over, the reverse is a circular 24 hour indicator seated below a circular dial with clous de paris behind.
