The Watch: The Equation of Time is one of Audemars Piguet's most intellectually ambitious complications. It displays the difference between mean solar time (what your clock shows) and apparent solar time (where the sun actually sits in the sky), a value that shifts throughout the year as the Earth's orbital speed and axial tilt create a gap of up to 16 minutes between the two. Most watch owners will never need this information, but someone figured out how to make a mechanical device track it.

This is a New York edition of Reference 25934BA, one of a series of city-specific Equation of Time models AP produced, each with a sunrise/sunset display calibrated to its namesake city's latitude. Beyond the equation of time itself, the dial carries a perpetual calendar with moon phase, sunrise and sunset times for New York, and a power reserve indicator. It's a lot of information on one dial, but AP's layout manages to keep it legible rather than chaotic. 39mm case.
