The Watch: The Cartier Rotonde de Cartier Jump Hour W1553751 represents a pinnacle of haute horlogerie from one of the world's most prestigious maisons. Cartier planned to launch this model as part of its CPCP collection, but as that line phased out in the early 2010's, this model became part of the Fine Watchmaking collection. Either way, it is an exemplar of Cartier's horological prowess. Made out of 18kt rose gold, its 42mm polished construction is immediately unique from Cartier's typically svelte angular designs.
The Rotonde de Cartier Jump Hour's unique dial features a tonal aesthetic with various shades of greys and silver, with a Roman numeral jump hour indicator at 12 o'clock that is framed by the same plate that acts as a raised central platform. The dial showcases exquisite rosette guilloche patterns and a Cartier-signed cartouche, while the hidden minute hand takes the form of a grey concentric brushed ring with a black arrow pointing to the minute scale. With this raised central platform, the Jump Hour's display features a rich level of depth that creates mesmerizing visual interest.
Powered by the in-house manual-wind cal. 9905MC, the Rotonde de Cartier Jump Hour showcases Cartier's ability to take an age-old design, the jump hour, and repackage it as something unique and interesting that fits within their design language perfectly. This Cartier watch measures 11.8mm in thickness and 47.6mm from lug-to-lug. With sapphire crystal and 30 meters of water resistance, this is a dress watch built to showcase Cartier's manufacture excellence.
