The Watch: In 1951 Glashütte was both a pivotal watchmaking city, and one in the newly Communist East Germany. That year Glashütte Uhrenbetriebe (GUB) was incorporated, a collectivization of seven Glashütte watchmakers, including A. Lange & Söhne. While Western watchmakers struggled through the quartz crisis of the 70's and 80's, GUB was insulated from market forces and continued to focus on traditional watchmaking. Finally, in 1991 after German reunification, the company was once again re-incoporated now as Glashütte Original.
This is a perfect example of German watchmaking. In a 40mm stainless steel case with 30m water resistance, it is stark on the dial side with an industrial (note the three quarter plate in steel rather than cupronickel) ornateness (the hand-engraved double balance bridges with swans-neck regulators) on its reverse. It comes in excellent condition.
Condition: Excellent condition showing light wear from occasional use.
Includes: Box, papers (stamped but open. Year of sale was confirmed via GO's website, see photos). Box is peeling, not for use.
