H. Moser & Cie
The Watch: Heinrich Moser founded his manufacture in 1828 and spent the next several decades building watches of such quality that the Russian Tsar became a client. The modern revival, beginning in 2005, has been an exercise in marrying minimalism, modernity, and high horology. H. Moser & Cie watches are generally known for their minimalist color wash dials and exquisite movement finishing. This one keeps the latter but trades the former for an icily quiet white dial with roman numerals.
The Venturer is Moser's tribute to Heinrich's entrepreneurial spirit, the name itself a nod to his ventures. It reinterprets the design codes of the historic Moser pocket watches through the convex forms popular in the 1960s, with a domed case and a domed sapphire crystal whose curve is echoed in the long tapered hands. This reference is the Venturer Small Seconds in 18k white gold, Bucherer Blue Edition.
The case measures 39mm, restrained by modern standards and sized like a true dress watch. Inside is the in-house caliber HMC 327, a hand-wound movement with a minimum three day power reserve, a power reserve indicator placed on the movement side to keep the dial clean, a Straumann hairspring with a Breguet overcoil, and the Moser Stripes finishing that the brand uses in place of the usual Cotes de Geneve, all visible through the sapphire caseback. Water resistance is 30 meters. And note blue escapement wheel, special for this edition.
