The Watch: Michel Parmigiani founded the brand in 1996 after building a reputation as one of the finest watch restorers working, taking in historical pieces for the Patek Philippe Museum and the Sandoz Foundation. Parmigiani Fleurier makes nearly every component itself, movements and cases and dials, which puts it among the small number of genuinely vertically integrated watchmakers.
The Tonda PF collection arrived in 2021 as a reset of the Tonda line and immediately garnered acclaim for its slim profile and guilloché dials.
The dial is Milano Blue with a Grain d'Orge guilloché, rhodium-plated gold appliques, and skeletonized delta hands. Small seconds and two chronograph registers sit against the guilloché, with the date at 4 o'clock.
The case is 42mm at 12.4mm thick in medical-grade stainless steel, polished and satin finished, with a hand-knurled bezel in 950 platinum. Water resistance is 100 meters. The bracelet is integrated steel with a folding clasp.
Inside is the cal. PF070, integrated, column wheel, running at 5Hz. That is 36,000 vph, which is fast for a chronograph and lets the watch time to a tenth of a second. It carries 315 components, 42 jewels, 65 hours of reserve, and COSC certification. The oscillating weight is 22k rose gold, openworked around a central PF medallion.
