The Watch: Tudor burst back into watchmaking in 2012 with The Black Bay line. The first releases were 41mm, followed by a 39mm, in-house movements in 2015, and then this launch in 2023. The Black Bay 54 references 1954, the year Tudor introduced their first dive watch, reference 7922. That original was 37mm. This is also 37mm.
No date, gilt details on black dial, snowflake hands. The lugs are shorter, the case band is thinner. It wears like a vintage piece without the vintage problems.
Powered by Tudor's in-house MT5400 caliber, a no-date version of their MT5402. 70-hour power reserve, silicon hairspring, COSC certified. The movement's visible through the caseback.
Steel bracelet with rivet-style links, a nod to Tudor's vintage bracelets from the 1950s and 60s. Matte dial, domed crystal, 200m water resistance.
The Black Bay 54 is Tudor doing what they do best: mining their archive for good design, building it with modern movements and materials, pricing it reasonably.
