The Watch: Founded in 1996 by Michel Parmigiani, Parmigiani Fleurier is a relatively young but highly respected name in watchmaking. Before establishing his eponymous brand, Parmigiani earned a reputation as one of the world’s finest watch restorers, preserving priceless historical timepieces for institutions like the Patek Philippe Museum and the Sandoz Foundation. It was this mastery of traditional watchmaking techniques, combined with a vision for modern luxury, that laid the groundwork for the creation of Parmigiani Fleurier. Today, the brand is known for its fully integrated manufacturing process, producing nearly every component in-house including movements, cases, and dials, making it one of the few truly vertical watchmakers in the world.
The Parmigiani Fleurier PFC288-1200300-HA1441, part of the Tonda 1950 line, exemplifies the brand’s philosophy of blending refined aesthetics with high-end craftsmanship. Named after the year of Michel Parmigiani’s birth, this model features a 39mm polished 18k white gold case, just 8.4mm thick. The lugs, with their signature teardrop shape, echoed again by the buckle, give the case a distinct, flowing profile.
The dial is a soft grey with applied hour markers and slender delta-shaped hands, finished in polished rhodium. A small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock adds balance to the minimalist layout. Underneath the understated exterior lies Parmigiani’s in-house PF701 automatic movement, measuring only 2.6mm in height, with a micro-rotor made of platinum to ensure efficient winding without adding unnecessary thickness. The movement is finely finished, with Côtes de Genève decoration, beveled bridges, and a perlage pattern on the main plate.
Completing the look is a black Hermès alligator leather strap, a testament to Parmigiani’s long-standing partnership with the French luxury house.
