The Watch: Otsuka Lotec is a Japanese watch manufacturer founded by Jiro Katayama, a car and product designer who began creating his own watches in 2008 ("It all started around 2008 when I acquired a small lathe...") and has slowly grown in prominence, seeming to reach a critical mass in 2024 when the No. 6, won the GPHG Challenge Award.
The No. 7.5 is a 40mm stainless steel watch with a triple display inspired by vintage 3-lens turret 8mm cameras. Its case has a sandblasted finish, with 3 lensed apertures into the hours, minutes, and seconds. Beyond a vintage camera it conjures a 19th century diving helmet, or a piece of mid-century laboratory equipment. All of which befits the humble, but meticulous work of its maker.
The modified Miyota movement is visible through the caseback.
