The Watch: The Royal Oak Offshore is what happened when Audemars Piguet decided to take the Royal Oak's design language and push it through an amplifier. Emmanuel Gueit designed the original Offshore in 1993 at age 22, intentionally scaled up from the standard Royal Oak's 39mm to 42mm, with thicker case construction, exposed rubber gaskets, and aggressive sizing that horrified Royal Oak purists at the time (including Genta himself) and went on to become one of AP's most successful product lines.
Reference 26400SO.OO.A002CA.01 is the 44mm chronograph in stainless steel with a black ceramic bezel, crown, and pushers. The "SO" suffix designates the steel and ceramic combination. The silver Méga Tapisserie dial pattern is exclusive to the Offshore line, with the squared waffle texture that's significantly larger than the Petite Tapisserie found on the standard Royal Oak. Three sub-counters in black create high contrast against the silver background: 30-minute counter at 3, 12-hour counter at 6, and small seconds at 12. Date window at 4:30. Applied white gold Arabic numerals and hour markers with luminescent fill, and signature red chronograph hands.
Inside is AP's manufacture caliber 3126/3840, an automatic chronograph with 59 jewels, 28,800 vph, and a 50-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback. Water resistance is 100 meters.
