The Watch: Here’s something special: A 2022 Octo Finissimo Sejima Edition, ref 103710, one of 360 made. The Sejima Edition was inspired by a mirror train, also conceived by Pritzker-winning Japanese architect Kazuyo Sejima, back in 2018 and began running the next year. This watch is one of the more interesting concepts of recent times: the “luxury” side of “steel luxury watch” to an absurd degree, the thinnest watch made even more invisible, and a watch that barely registers the time. This one is a futurist mirror, the only occlusion to the full-polished surfaces is the special crystal flecked with a dot pattern designed by Sejima to echo the pattern on the mirror trains. It’s a study in contrasts: a watch with a nearly blank face, a steel watch in full polish, an “invisible” watch that reflects light like a beacon. A gorgeous collision of Italian and Japanese design. These were only released in Japan, but we have our hands on one.
