The Watch: The Santos dates to 1904, when Louis Cartier designed a wristwatch for his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont, the Brazilian aviation pioneer who needed to check the time while flying without releasing the controls. The exposed screws on the bezel referenced the industrial aesthetic of early aviation. The square case was a deliberate departure from the pocket watches that dominated the era.
Reference WSSA0030 presents the large model in steel with a graduated blue dial that shifts from lighter at the center to darker at the edges. The chemin de fer minute track, sword-shaped hands, and Roman numerals maintain the design language Cartier established over a century ago. The current generation includes QuickSwitch lugs for tool-free strap changes and SmartLink bracelet adjustment. Caliber 1847 MC handles timekeeping with approximately 42 hours of power reserve.
