The Watch: Daniel Roth is one of the key architects of modern independent watchmaking. After revitalizing Breguet in the 1980s, Roth launched his namesake brand in 1989, focusing on classically styled complications finished to the highest standards and encased in his now-iconic “ellipsocurvex” case shape.

This reference 118.X.40.161.CN.BA is an exquisite example of Roth’s perpetual calendar design in solid 18k yellow gold. The silver dial is elaborately constructed, with a clous de paris decorated outer ring, a guilloché wave-pattern subdial at 6 o’clock, and a uniquely minimalist moonphase at 12: a blue circle that progressively turns gold as the moon waxes full.

Cut-outs inboard of 4 and 7 display the day and month, while the 6 o’clock register hosts both the date and a leap year indicator with a rotating 4-sector display.

The 38mm case is sculpted and detailed, with stepped flanks and polished edges. A sapphire display back reveals the automatic movement, which advances all perpetual functions in sync. The perpetual calendar is adjusted via recessed correctors in the case.

This example comes as a full set, including the original inner and outer boxes, literature, leather strap with signed buckle, and a blank (unsigned) warranty card.

Condition: Excellent overall. Light wear to case and strap. Calendar functions operating correctly.

Includes: Watch, inner and outer boxes, manuals, original strap and buckle, blank warranty card

A rare chance to own a complete, beautifully preserved example of one of Daniel Roth’s most refined complications—technically impressive and visually unique.
