The Watch: Here’s some early 2000s elegance: the Cartier Tortue Ref. 2496D, a mechanical masterpiece from Cartier’s Collection Privée Cartier Paris (CPCP) line. Inspired by the original 1912 design created by Louis Cartier, the Tortue (“turtle” in French) stands apart from the usual round cases, offering a curvaceous and refined silhouette that feels equally classic and avant-garde.

The 33mm 18k yellow gold case features Cartier’s signature blend of polished and brushed surfaces, accentuating the iconic tortoise-shaped profile. Beneath the sapphire crystal lies a silver guilloché dial with black Roman numerals and blued steel Breguet-style hands—a quintessential Cartier aesthetic. Subtle details like the chemin-de-fer minute track and applied Cartier signature at 7 o’clock add layers of depth and charm.

Powering this elegant timepiece is the manual-wind Caliber 437 MC, based on the tried-and-true Piaget 430P, known for its thinness and reliability. Through the sapphire caseback, you can admire the movement’s meticulous finishing, with Geneva stripes, blued screws, and beveled edges. Paired with a supple black alligator strap and an 18k yellow gold deployant clasp, it’s a watch that feels every bit as luxurious as it looks.

The Cartier Tortue Ref. 2496D is more than just a timepiece—it’s a tribute to Cartier’s legacy of creating daring designs with impeccable craftsmanship. Whether you’re a Cartier enthusiast or a collector of neo-vintage classics, this Tortue is an elegant slice of early 2000s watchmaking that stands out in any collection.
