The Watch: The Reverso case was built in 1931 so polo players could flip the watch and put a slab of metal where the crystal used to be. For sixty years that meant the reverse side was dead space, engraved or enameled if the owner felt like it and blank if he didn't. The Duoface, introduced in 1994, is when JLC decided to use it.
Flip this one and you get a second dial running off the same movement. The front is silver with a guilloché center, applied Arabic numerals, and small seconds at 6 o'clock. The reverse is charcoal black with luminous hands and a 24-hour indicator, which is the Day and Night part of the name and the reason the two faces are legible in different conditions. Both are driven by a single caliber 854, hand wound, with the going train extended to carry hands on the far side of the movement.
The case is the Grande Taille, 26mm across and 42mm tall including the brancards, in solid 18k rose gold. Finding one like this, on a JLC rose gold bracelet, is a rarity.
The backplate carries an engraving reading J.E.S.
Condition: Good. Wear consistent with roughly twenty years of use, visible in the photos. Engraved J.E.S. on the backplate.
