The Watch: The Gérald Genta Arena Bi-Retro BSP.Y.10 is a quintessential example of the late master designer’s avant-garde horological vision. A watchmaker and designer responsible for icons like the Royal Oak and Nautilus, Genta spent his later years exploring playful, technically complex complications under his own name—culminating in the Bi-Retro series.
The Arena case design, inspired by classical Roman amphitheaters, is defined by its bold round profile and fluted case flanks. The silver dial features a retrograde minutes display arcing from 0 to 60 across the upper half, paired with a digital jumping hour window at 12 o’clock and a retrograde date scale sweeping the lower half. Both displays snap back instantly at the end of each cycle—an engineering feat that exemplifies Genta’s blend of whimsy and technical ingenuity.
The stainless steel case measures 44mm across and sits comfortably thanks to short lugs and a flat profile. Powering the watch is the in-house automatic caliber GG7722.
Condition: Very good condition overall, with one significant mark on the bezel near the 45-minute index. The dial and crystal are clean. Both retrograde functions operate correctly.
