The Watch: Ikepod is one of the great cult stories in modern watchmaking. The brand launched in 1994 as a collaboration between watch dealer Oliver Ike and the Australian industrial designer Marc Newson, whose work runs from Nike sneakers to the interiors of private jets to the Apple design language he later helped shape. Newson gave Ikepod a single radical idea: the monocoque pebble case with no lugs, a smooth sculptural form that sits on the wrist unlike anything else in watchmaking. The watches were always limited editions, never widely distributed, and the brand has died and been reborn more than once, which has only deepened the collector following.

The Megapode was the largest and most technical watch Newson designed for Ikepod. It was built as a pilot's instrument, incorporating the American ASA flight computer with two logarithmic slide rule scales that calculate fuel consumption, distances, and unit conversions. The 46mm titanium monocoque case is enormous on paper but wears far smaller than the number suggests, because the lugless pebble form has no overhang and curves down into the wrist.

This is the chronometer configuration, built on a modified Valjoux 7750 with a second time zone and certified by COSC. The dial layout carries a 12 hour and 30 minute chronograph counter, the second time zone, and a date at 6 o'clock. The 7750 is the most proven automatic chronograph movement ever made, and here it is regulated to chronometer standard, with the certification number engraved on the watch.
