The Watch: A mid-90’s Girard-Perregaux Laureato 8010.
The Laureato line was introduced by GP in 1975 with a Quartz movement, which was quite logical if you consider that GP pioneered the modern Swiss Quartz watch in 1972. Generation 1 was time-only with date and came in 3 different sizes. The largest (men's) was 35mm and already had the octagonal bezel shape and clous de Paris dial pattern. The bracelet had a less intricate design, just flat rectangular plates tapering inwards.
Gen 2 was smaller, still quartz powered, and introduced an early version of the polished cushion link bracelets that are still in use today.
This is Gen 3. In 1995, GP relaunched the line as a mechanical watch. Very similar to Gen 1’s dial design, but now on a thin, in-house cal. 3100. At 36mm across and 8mm thick, it sits lower than a modern Laureato (Gen 5), both more industrial in its design and more elegant in its proportions.
There were a total of 700 made from 1995-2000. This is number 273. Fits a 7” wrist.
Condition: Excellent, pre-owned condition. Missing a screw in one link (each is secured by two screws). Does not affect wear. See photos.
Includes: Watch only.
