The Watch: Released in 2017 as a limited reissue of Seiko’s first dive watch—the 62MAS from 1965—the SLA017 isn’t just a tribute; it’s a faithful resurrection. The 39.9mm stainless steel case mirrors the original’s proportions, but inside beats the 8L35 automatic movement, assembled at Seiko’s Shizukuishi studio and based on the Grand Seiko 9S55.
200m water resistance, a screw-down crown, and a domed sapphire crystal bring the vintage silhouette up to modern spec. The sunburst grey dial, razor-sharp indices, lume-filled hands, and dramatically domed crystal feel pulled straight from a Jacques Cousteau reel—functional, legible, and quietly heroic.
Only 2,000 pieces were made, making this less of a "nostalgia piece" and more of a time machine—mechanical, Japanese, and unbothered by trend.
