The Watch: The secret of this watch is in the name. Calibre 36 is TAG Heuer's designation for the Zenith El Primero, one of the great automatic chronograph movements ever made. It runs at 36,000 vibrations per hour where most movements run at 28,800, which is what lets the chronograph measure tenths of a second and gives the seconds hand its unusually smooth sweep. This is the same base movement Rolex used in the Daytona for years. TAG Heuer sourced it for the top of the Link range, had it COSC chronometer certified, and put it on display through a sapphire caseback.
The case is 42mm in brushed stainless steel with a black aluminum tachymeter bezel. The silver dial carries three chronograph registers, a date window, and luminous hands and markers.
This is a lot of movement for the money. El Primero powered watches from Zenith itself trade at multiples of what the Link Calibre 36 does, and the engine is the same.
