The Watch: Trilobe is a relatively new name in independent watchmaking, founded in 2018 by Gautier Massonneau with a simple premise: no hands. Instead, the brand uses rotating rings to indicate hours, minutes, and seconds—an architectural reinterpretation of time that blends mechanical creativity with a distinctly modern aesthetic.
The Nuit Fantastique is one of Trilobe’s core designs, and this Hodinkee edition adds a subtle twist. Limited to 30 pieces, it features a guilloche dial that is adorned with not one but two distinct patterns. The base of the dial shows a Grain d'Orge patterning, meticulously carved into the surface using a hand-operated rose engine machine. Within the seconds disk, a straight-line Clous de Paris pattern takes form. The time display is off-centered: hours tracked via the outer ring, minutes on an inner ring, and small seconds tucked into a rotating disc at 6 o’clock.
Inside is the X-Centric caliber, an in-house automatic movement developed with Chronode, offering a 48-hour power reserve and finishing that holds up to the sapphire caseback.
It’s minimalist, yes—but technically ambitious, and unlike anything else.
