The Watch: Glashutte Original is the direct descendant of the East German watch combine GUB, which absorbed the town of Glashutte's historic manufactures after the war and kept Saxon watchmaking alive behind the Iron Curtain. After reunification the company was privatized, took the name Glashutte Original in 1994.
The Pano line is their most recognizable line. The layout is akin to another highly respected German watchmaker, but without same the eye-watering prices. The moon phase sits at 2 on a starred night-blue disc, and the Panorama Date at 4.
This is the XL version, at 42mm in 18k rose gold, with a silver dial carrying rose gold hands and applied numerals. The caliber 90-02 inside is equally impressive. The winding rotor is recessed into the movement rather than swinging over it, leaving the striped three-quarter plate in view, along with a duplex swan neck regulator and a hand-engraved balance bridge, all visible through the sapphire caseback.
This 2007 example comes as a full set in very good condition. The outer box shows peeling and is included for completeness rather than presentation.
Condition: Very good. Box is peeling.
